Manchester United have reportedly agreed initial terms for Casemiro to head out on loan this month, although the potential transfer is deemed to be a “risky” move.

Manchester United have been looking to offload multiple players with bloated wages across the last 12 months as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to fix the club’s dire financials.

After moving Jadon Sancho to Chelsea in the summer, United continued their exodus last month as Marcus Rashford left on loan to Aston Villa, and Antony signed with Real Betis for the rest of this season, saving the club over £2 million a month in wages.

United also offloaded several academy products and Tyrell Malacia on loan during the rest of the winter window, although these moves have less to do with saving money and more to do with making sure those on the fringes of Rúben Amorim’s squad receive adequate game time.

However, several players with bloated salaries remain within the team, with the contracts of those such as Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount often highlighted by fans as bad pieces of business.

United agree to Casemiro loan terms

Although the winter window has shut for most clubs around Europe, United may be thanking their blessings that the Brazilian transfer window does not shut until the end of Feburary.

According to journalist Jorge Nicola, Flamengo have enquired about taking Casemiro on loan from Old Trafford until the end of the season, and that United have agreed to help them pay for his salary.

“I can assure you that Flamengo investigated the player’s situation in the last few days. The English club agree to loan him and help with part of his salary. Filipe Luís would love to count on Casemiro,” he said via Bolvaip.

However, Nicola also pointed out that it is still a risky transfer for the Brazilian side, as even with United’s help, they would still have to fork out a significant amount of money to pay Casemiro’s wages.

“Flamengo understand that, given all the figures, it is a very risky business. Even though United are willing to help with most of the salary, there would still be a very high amount to be paid.”

It’s said that ex-Chelsea left-back Filipe Luís, who is in charge at Flamengo, has approved signing Casemiro. A loan move may be finalised this week if the clubs agree on more specific wage split terms.

How much Casemiro earns at United

According to the above report, Casemiro earns around £312,000-a-week at United, with other reports putting his wages at around £350,000 a week before tax.

The Brazilian is by far United’s highest-earning player following Rashford’s exit, although Bruno Fernandes is also thought to sit at a salary of around £300,000 a week before tax.

However, this feels more worth it for the club considering the importance of Fernandes both on and off the field as a club captain.

So far, United have managed to negotiate loan deals where the other club is paying most of any players’ wages. Aston Villa are paying a minimum of 75% of Rashford’s wages, while Betis are covering 84% of Antony’s salary, and PSV Eindhoven are paying Malacia’s complete package.

However, in the case of Casemiro, it feels as if United would have to pay a much greater proportion of his £300,000+ a week salary in order to secure his move away this month.
