Manchester United are reportedly in “advanced talks” to sell a forgotten Old Trafford man to raise further funds for Erik ten Hag this summer.

Manchester United are planning to offload several players this summer following the signings of Joshua ZirkzeeLeny YoroMatthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui, which have cost the club £139 million in total.

While this figure is substantial, United have already recouped over £55 million through the sales of Aaron Wan-BissakaMason GreenwoodWilly Kambwala, and others who have left Old Trafford in recent months.

With just under two weeks remaining in the transfer window, the club is keen to bring in a new midfielder and potentially a left-back. Reports suggest that Manuel Ugarte is “pushing like crazy” for a move from Paris Saint-Germain.

To fund these potential transfers, United are looking to facilitate more departures and, according to a recent report from Fabrizio Romano, may sanction Facundo Pellistri’s Old Trafford exit.

According to the transfer expert, Greek side Panathinaikos are now in “advanced talks” with United with respect to the permanent transfer of Facundo Pellistri.

Although the deal is not yet finalised, negotiations are ongoing. Romano further explains that Pellistri could leave United in the “next days”.

Pellistri’s journey at United has been marked by inconsistency, with Ten Hag never fully integrating him into the squad. Pellistri joined United from Uruguayan club Peñarol in 2020 for around £7 million, with the expectation that he would develop into a key winger over the coming seasons.

However, while Alejandro Garnacho has successfully followed this path and Amad Diallo has now emerged, Pellistri’s opportunities in the first team have become increasingly limited, leading him to become somewhat of a forgotten figure at the club.

As a result, Pellistri has been loaned out multiple times to La Liga, spending two stints with Alaves and most recently joining Granada in the January 2024 transfer window.

Despite these challenges at club level, Pellistri’s performances for Uruguay have been promising, with the winger playing a starting role during their 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America campaigns.
