According to a new report, Manchester United have taken steps to sign a £33 million star as one of Ruben Amorim’s men is confirmed to leave.

Manchester United have entered the 2025 January transfer window in disarray, struggling to recover from four consecutive losses in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Rúben Amorim faces a critical challenge as United urgently need reinforcements. However, the club’s financial troubles, exacerbated by Erik ten Hag’s costly spending during his two-and-a-bit seasons in charge, have left little room for manoeuvre.

The squad requires significant strengthening, including a new left-back, at least one centre-back, a striker, and several midfielders. Yet, with limited funds available, United must turn to player sales to finance these essential signings.

As a result, the focus for January and the summer will be on offloading players to free up resources and pave the way for a much-needed rebuild.

United make contact for Inter Milan’s Frattesi

Amorim is hoping his side brings in fresh reinforcements in the coming transfer windows, with midfield an area of priority for the head coach.

According to TeamTalk, United have made contact for 25-year-old midfielder Davide Frattesi as they continue to scout the market for potential options in the position.

Frattesi has only made four starts for Inter Milan this season but has come off the bench on multiple occasions, but is said to have a market value of around £33 million, which puts him within United’s current budgetary restraints.

However, it’s also noted that both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the player, with Serie A side AS Roma also keeping tabs.

Frattesi plays both as a central midfielder and more advanced, suiting him to multiple positions under Amorim. He has also played 25 times for the Italian national side.

Eriksen set to leave United this summer

This comes after Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Christian Eriksen will leave United this summer once his contract expires at the end of June.

“Manchester United have already decided internally that his contract will not be extended and that the Danish midfielder will leave on a free transfer in the summer – only a good proposal could change the story and see him leave in January,” Romano explained late last month.

“Real Betis were keen on signing Eriksen at the end of the summer window, but they were not able to agree on terms on both club and player side.

“In case a good club appears with a good proposal for the player, United could be open to facilitating his exit and move on from a signing strongly wanted by previous manager Erik ten Hag.

“However, Amorim’s vision goes in a different direction, as he wants intensity everywhere, especially in the midfield.”
