Fabrizio Romano claims one Manchester United target is available for transfer in January, but he has already rejected Rúben Amorim’s side.

Manchester United are looking to sign a new left-back in the coming months as Rúben Amorim looks to fix his side’s defensive issues at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s tenure has been overshadowed by a leaky defence, with United particularly struggling to defend set pieces. Strengthening the backline is expected to be a top priority in the upcoming transfer windows.

For over a decade, the left-back position has been a troublesome area for United. Luke Shaw, the club’s go-to option, has endured a career blighted by injuries, including a devastating double leg fracture against PSV Eindhoven in 2015.

Shaw’s deputy, Tyrell Malacia, recently returned to fitness after a gruelling 17-month layoff due to a severe knee injury that required multiple surgeries.

While Diogo Dalot has been covering on the left, Amorim has acknowledged that the Portuguese international is far more comfortable playing in his natural right-back position.

United target available in January, says Fabrizio Romano

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Juventus left-back Danilo, who has reportedly gathered interest from United, is completely out of his current clubs plans.

The Italian journalist explains that the 33-year-old is now available for a January transfer after being left out of Juventus’ squad travelling to Saudi Arabia for the Super Cup.

At 33 years old, the Brazilian is by no means a long-term option in the position, but with Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans both likely leaving, he would be a much-needed senior figure to help raise the club’s standards.

Having played for Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Juventus, Danilo knows how to win and has won more career trophies than any player at United, bar Casemiro, who is on his way out.

Danilo’s transfer to United has been rejected

However, in a twist of events, a report from Tuttosport has explained that after United tested the waters for Danilo, the player has instead chosen to sign for Antonio Conte’s Napoli side after they offered him a two-year deal.

“The reason why the Brazilian now appears inclined to accept the courtship of De Laurentiis’ club is because a contract until 2026 is ready,” the report reads.

“With all due respect to the many foreign admirers Flamengo, Marseille and Manchester United, who in recent weeks have asked for information and tested the waters.

“Juve does not intend to give Danilo his registration, but aims to collect compensation or obtain something in exchange (for example the loan of Raspadori from Napoli). Danilo has chosen Napoli as the next stage of his career. Conte awaits him with open arms.”

While Danilo may have been able to offer Amorim invaluable experience, with the player’s age comes a lack of intensity, and with the 39-year-old’s wing-backs the most important part of his system, there is a solid chance Danilo may not have been able to provide that.
