One target that Manchester United reportedly tried to sign last summer has been showing ‘major improvement’ this season, with a summer move said to be on the cards.

Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side struggle for consistency in front of goal.

Beyond Bruno Fernandes, United’s attacking output has been underwhelming, with the front three frequently failing to find the net. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only intensified concerns.

During the last transfer window, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.

However, fans were left frustrated as United chose not to sign any attacking replacements. The only arrivals in January were left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

United failed to sign “impressive” star last summer

This will be yet another summer where United will need to bolster their attacking reinforcements. 2020 saw the club sign Edinson Cavani, with Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo signing in 2021.

In 2022, winger Antony joined, with 2023 seeing Rasmus Højlund brought in and Joshua Zirkzee signed for the club in 2024. However, the same year Zirkzee signed, United reportedly also tried to bring in his Bologna teammate Dan Ndoye.

According to TuttoSport, United attempted to bring in the Switzerland international, who has had an “impressive” rise to prominence across the last few seasons. However, their move for the player failed.

TuttoSport have further commented on how the 24-year-old winger has since shown signs of further improvement, having registered ten goal involvements in the Serie A with Bologna fighting for top four this season.

How much would Ndoye cost this summer?

Several top clubs are said to be keeping a close eye on the winger, with Ndoye also impressing at the 2024 European Championships last summer as they got to the quarter finals.

The Italian report claims that Bologna sporting director Giovanni Sartari was keen on keeping the winger last summer and rejected United’s advances amid their talks for Zirkzee, but his future may be up in the air again this summer.

Napoli and Inter Milan have already made approaches for Ndoye in the last few months, with Amorim’s side touted as ones to watch regarding their interest for him this coming window.

There are indications that Bologna would accept a fee of around £25 million for the player.
