Club director refuses to rule out signing Manchester United star after “magical” Southampton moment

Manchester United are looking to make sales in the January transfer window to make space for signings in Ruben Amorim’s first-team.
Ruben Amorim’s side have had difficulties since he took charge and it is clear that Manchester United need some additions for the new head coach.
There are several players who are rumoured with January exits, including the likes of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.
Tyrell Malacia is also expected to leave the club on loan with the left-back in need of getting consistent game-time after his long-term injury.
However, the Reds are also trying to see if they could sell the likes of Christian Eriksen or Victor Lindelöf, who will likely be leaving for free at the end of the season.
Copenhagen director addresses Eriksen deal
It has been well-reported that United will consider offers for those players with expiring contracts to try and get some sort of fee for them.
Eriksen has been linked with several clubs, including Danish outfit FC Copenhagen, and their sporting director, Sune Smith-Nielsen, has been asked about the prospect of a deal.
“He’s a very skilful player. Christian is a Danish international and plays for Manchester United,” Smith-Nielsen said, as per Sport Witness.
“Why don’t we just say that he’s a great international profile? And then I won’t comment any further.”
Eriksen produced “magical” moment vs Southampton
United would not be requiring a large bid for Eriksen this month but they must also be wary about the midfield depth at Old Trafford.
Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo are currently the first-choice options in the midfield while Toby Collyer looks to have become a solid backup option for Amorim.
Eriksen and Casemiro are clearly backups in the new system and neither really fit the role Amorim wants from his midfielders.
However, Eriksen is one of the only midfielders at Old Trafford capable of making incredible passes to unlock a defence. He assisted Amad’s second goal against Southampton with a beautiful first-time pass over the deep Saints backline.
Bruno Fernandes described the assist as “magical” and barring those two players, there aren’t many United men who could make that pass to Amad.
Amorim’s team are struggling to score goals outside of transitions, and selling Eriksen would get rid of one player who can make those moments happen, which makes signing–or bringing through–a replacement slightly more important.
