Manchester United midfielder to “start exploring options” away from Old Trafford, says Fabrizio Romano

One Manchester United midfielder is set to start exploring his options away from Old Trafford this summer, claims Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United are planning to strengthen their midfield this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to fix the team’s ongoing struggles in the centre of the pitch.
Creativity has been a persistent issue for United this season, with the team often failing to break down opposition defences and struggling to score more than once per game. Their inconsistent form at Old Trafford has only intensified concerns over their lack of control in midfield.
In January, the club sanctioned multiple loan departures, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the season.
Further midfield changes are expected in the summer. Christian Eriksen is set to leave when his contract expires, while Casemiro is no longer in Amorim’s plans.
As a result, United are preparing for a crucial transfer window, targeting midfielders who can bring more creativity, energy, and tactical discipline to fit Amorim’s system.
Eriksen to explore his options
With Eriksen now set to leave Old Trafford in the coming months, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the player will start to explore his options ahead of the end of the season.
“Christian Eriksen will soon start exploring options for his next chapter, as he’s set to leave Man United at the end of the season. His contract won’t be extended, and Eriksen will be a free agent in the summer,” the Italian journalist explained on social media.
Eriksen has played 21 times this season and has provided four goals and four assists, but has had a limited role under Amorim in the last three months, starting just four times.
The Danish international missed the recent loss against Tottenham through a fever alongside Leny Yoro, with Amorim admitting that he is being very careful with the player following his heart condition.
“They were sick. So they will recover,” Amorim said. “Of course Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that. It’s nothing about the heart! I’m just saying the heart rate has to be controlled because he has a fever.”
Eriksen’s retirement is a possibility
This news comes amid fears from Denmark that the player may choose to retire at the end of the season, with former Denmark international and Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen believing this is a genuine possibility.

“It is 100 per cent over for Christian Eriksen at Manchester United this summer, and I also fear that his career is over,” Gravesen said earlier this month.
“Where is he going to go? Where will he go and earn DKK 60 million (£6.7 million) a year? I have a very hard time seeing that. But now, it could be that he could settle for much less.
“Yes, he has probably earned the money he needs to, but I think that the development that Christian has undergone in the past few years is downward.
“It is sad to see the situation Christian Eriksen is in. He’s one of the players in Denmark who has given us the most. He has shone and been our best man, so it is sad if his career ends like this.”
