Manchester United have always been well known for developing academy players and looking to acquire high-level talent at a young age to complement their academy system.

While developing their own academy stars from a young age into first-team players, such as Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, they also look to acquire those from other academy systems, such as Alejandro Garnacho, Harry Amass, and Toby Collyer.

This has not changed under Erik ten Hag. Having signed 18-year-old Leny Yoro recently as a future stalwart of their defensive line, they have all but completed the signing of Arsenal academy star Chido Obi Martin, too.

Obi Martin, 16, is widely regarded as one of the best-attacking talents in the country and has taken the Arsenal academy by storm, even scoring ten goals in one game against Liverpool.

However, after he chose to leave Arsenal, Obi Martin had many options and decided to join Manchester United. Fabrizio Romano, the transfer expert, has now explained that he will sign soon as United’s third high-profile signing of the summer after Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee.

“Yeah, I think it’s going to be soon, but I don’t know when they will announce,” Romano told GiveMeSport. “With the youngsters, it always takes some time with the Premier League process and all that kind of stuff.

“So when it’s going to be official, I don’t know, but everything is going to be signed very soon because everything is agreed.”

Obi Martin is said to have been granted a full pathway to the first-team squad over the next few seasons, which was a big reason why he elected to sign for United, another major club in Germany, and reject fresh terms with Arsenal.

With Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee the current first-choice strikers in Ten Hag’s team, Obi Martin, a new academy star and third-choice player, is set to receive some senior minutes for the first time in his career.
