Manchester United may need to be braced for an incoming summer offer from Chelsea, with the Premier League side reportedly laying the groundwork for a transfer raid.

The 2025 summer transfer window is expected to be another few months where Manchester United will look to offload further players to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s first-team squad.

The winter window saw the club send 11 first-team and Academy players on loan, as well as sell one, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia three first-team players who departed for the remainder of the season.

All three are expected to be sold in the summer, while Casemiro is likely to depart, with Victor Lindelöf, Jonny Evans, and Christian Eriksen all out of contract.

There have also been various reports stating that the sales of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo cannot be ruled out due to profit and sustainability guideline pressures, with only Leny Yoro and Amad seen as entirely untouchable players.

Chelsea laying Garnacho groundwork

With Garnacho not entirely out of reach anymore, both Chelsea and Napoli tested the waters with respect to signing him in January and although the former did not lodge an official bid, the Serie A club launched two offers, both of which were rejected.

Their club president then claimed that the reason a deal could not be reached was Garnacho’s wage demands, although the offers they submitted were well below United’s asking price of around £60 million.

However, a report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Chelsea remain keen on the player, and have already “laid the groundwork” for a potential purchase of Garnacho in the summer.

The London club are also said to be keen on Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, with United also eyeing the young star.

How much will Garnacho cost in the summer?

Although United were demanding £60 million in January, it’s likely that the will raise their asking price for Garnacho in the summer.

United were willing to bend to £60 million as they needed an escape from financial pressures, but with the club set to make profit on several sales in the summer, there is less of a need to put a low value on the 20-year-0old.

With Rashford on loan at Villa, there is a £40 million buy option in his contract, and even if the Birmingham club choose not to trigger this, it’s likely another club will be in for him.

Chelsea are signing Sancho from United for £25 million in the summer as per their purchase obligation in his current loan deal and funds raised through the likely sales of others such as Casemiro, Malacia, and Antony will hand the club more cash.

Therefore, with United seeing Garnacho’s market value at higher than £60 million, they may be demanding a fee of up to £80 million for the young star in the summer.
