Manchester United are reportedly being forced to lower their asking price for Casemiro after another transfer rejection opportunity passed the club by.

Manchester United are looking to offload several players during the January transfer window as they work to generate funds ahead of a pivotal summer.

Rúben Amorim’s side began 2025 on a positive note, holding Liverpool to a draw, eliminating Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup, and defeating Southampton 3-1, with Amad producing a sensational 12-minute hat-trick. However, a frustrating 3-1 loss to Brighton has dampened spirits.

Despite an urgent need for reinforcements at left-back, in midfield, and in attack, United’s transfer business has been sluggish so far.

Amorim has repeatedly stressed his desire to retain the bulk of his squad, but the club are prepared to move on several players before the window closes, with the majority of exits likely to be loan deals.

United forced to lower Casemiro asking price

One player United have been looking to offload for over a year is Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who signed from Real Madrid in 2022 for a fee of around £60 million.

Despite a fantastic individual season across 2022/23, Casemiro’s form started to decline drastically after the 2023 summer transfer window, with the player being at fault for multiple goals under Erik ten Hag.

He has now been relegated to a firm bench role under Amorim, and according to CaughtOffside, United have been trying to find buyers, but there has been little luck.

Therefore, the club are being forced to lower their demands of £30 million, and there is a “very real chance” Casemiro is now set to stay at the club this month.

What Solskjær said about signing Casemiro

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær has recently been elected as the new manger of Turkish club Beşiktaş J.K., who sit 6th in the Turkish Super Lig.

He held his first press conference earlier this week and was asked about the possibility of signing either Casemiro or Marcus Rashford this month.

“I’ve come from Manchester United, so there will be transfer news like this,” the Besiktas boss said in reply, as per Sport Witness.

“Casemiro and Rashford are very good players, but I haven’t had any contact with them.

“I enjoyed my time at Manchester United. That chapter is closed. I’m looking forward to working at Besiktas now. The Bilbao game will be tough, but we are ready.”
