Manchester United receive second offer for “absolutely horrific” player as deal now close
Manchester United have received a second offer for one of Rúben Amorim’s outcasts as they look to move high-wage players on in January.
Manchester United are looking to offload several players in the January transfer window as they look to generate cash flow ahead of the summer.
Rúben Amorim’s men have started 2025 on a more positive note, drawing against Liverpool before defeating Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup and beating Southampton 3-1 thanks to a 12-minute hat-trick from Amad.
However, their movements in the market have not been as fast, despite the side crying out for new left-back, midfield options, and attacking reinforcements.
Amorim has been keen to let the press know that he wants to keep as much of his current squad as he can, but United are looking to offload several talents before the end of the window, with most likely to be loan departures.
United receive second offer for Antony
Antony is one of the players who many have touted for a move away in january after the winger has been mostly shunned from Amorim’s teams in the last two months.
The 24-year-old has made just two starts in Amorim’s opening 14 fixtures and was labelled “absolutely horrific” by fans following a poor 45-minute second-half cameo against Southampton.
According to the Spanish outlet Marca, United have now received a second loan bid from Real Betis for the Brazilian, improving on their initial offer.
They have asked that United pay a portion of his £200,000 a week wages for the remainder of the season and that talks between the two clubs have intensified in the last few days with the La Liga outfit seeing Antony as a priority target.
Betis’ second offer has come “considerably closer” to what United are demanding in comparison to their first.
The Spanish side are looking to get a deal finalised as quickly as possible, with a deal looking like it is close to being struck.
The first domino to fall after Ten Hag’s reign
Erik ten Hag’s time at United, prior to his replacement Amorim arriving at Old Trafford, was marred by his expensive transfer msitakes at the club.
Antony cost United £85 million but has failed to prove himself as a player ever since, while there have also been question marks surroudning spending £60 million on Casemiro and £72 million on Rasmus Højlund, although the club view the latter as a long-term project.
Antony departing United so soon after Ten Hag is just the first domino to fall as Amorim rips up the mess the Dutchman left at Old Trafford, with many others expected to depart in the following months.
The Brazilian former international is the main player who was holding Amad back from starting at United, but with the Ivoritian winger having penned a new deal at United and a firm starter under Amorim, Antony’s days at Old Trafford feel almost over.
