Manchester United have discovered what Real Betis’ opening bid for Antony will be as Rúben Amorim’s side set their asking price for the exiled winger.
Manchester United are looking to raise a significant amount in sales this summer as they look to raise funds to secure new signings for Rúben Amorim’s squad.
Previous reports have stated that United only have between £20-30 million to spend this summer ahead of sales, meaning the club will need to offload significant assets to add extra cash to Amorim’s transfer kitty.
The club will see £25 million arrive for Jadon Sancho once his loan to Chelsea becomes permanent, while Marcus Rashford’s loan to Aston Villa contains a buy-option of £40 million, and Tyrell Malacia’s short-term commitment to PSV Eindhoven has one at £8.3 million.
Meanwhile, the club will also be hoping to offload major contracts attached to current players with the futures of Luke Shaw, Casemiro, and others in serious doubt.
Betis set to bid for Antony
Another player who was offloaded on loan in January was Brazilian winger Antony, who had been all but exiled from Amorim’s squad after he was deemed not sufficient enough in quality.
However, since signing for La Liga side Real Betis on loan until the end of the season, Antony has started to shine and has quickly become one of the most talked-about players in Spain, leading to a recall to the Brazil squad.
However, unlike United’s other loan deals in the winter window, Antony’s does not include an option to buy, meaning if Betis want to keep the player, they must look to lodge a transfer bid.
According to StrettyNews, the Seville-based club are set to do just this and are likely to table a bit of around £16-20 million to the Old Trafford outfit.
How much United want for Antony
However, the above report further states that United are holding out for much more than this.
The club are said to be delighted by the winger’s positive performances while on loan and is looking at demanding between £33-40 million in the coming window, no doubt in part due to wanting to recoup as much of his £86 million transfer fee as possible.
Should Antony continue playing well, there is little doubt that United would be able to demand a much higher fee than what Betis will initially offer, and a bidding war may be triggered in the coming months.
Juventus have been noted as another club who are closely following Antony’s progress, and considering his fantastic form, the summer may become an interesting one regarding his future.
