Manchester United eyeing “perfect partner” for Kobbie Mainoo in £16m summer transfer swoop
Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a £16 million transfer swoop for a midfielder some fans see as the “perfect partner” for Kobbie Mainoo.
Manchester United are planning to strengthen their midfield this summer as Rúben Amorim looks to resolve the team’s ongoing struggles in the centre of the pitch.
Creativity and control from the middle of the pitch has been a persistent issue for United this season, with the team often struggling to break down opposition defences and failing to score more than once per game.
Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only heightened concerns over their control in midfield.
In January, the club sanctioned multiple loan departures, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.
Further departures are expected in midfield at the end of the season. Christian Eriksen is set to leave when his contract expires, while Casemiro is no longer in Amorim’s long-term plans.
As a result, United are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window, targeting midfielders who can add creativity, energy, and tactical discipline to fit Amorim’s vision.
United eyeing £16m Stach transfer
According to German transfer specialist Christopher Michel, one player who has become a key talking point within Old Trafford is Anton Stach, currently playing for TSG Hoffenheim and the German national team.
The 26-year-old midfielder has 113 Bundesliga appearances under his belt to date. It has become a key part of Hoffenheim’s system as a defensive midfielder, although also he has also played further up the pitch previously, too.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, although the German club do not want to get rid of their star midfielder, they are aware of interest from several clubs.
Therefore, the club have set an asking price of between £12-16 million for their player. It’s mentioned that Eintracht Frankfurt are also eyeing the midfielder this summer.
Where would Stach fit under Amorim at United
As mentioned above, United are likely to see multiple of their current midfielders depart once the campaign ends, with the club needing both defensive and creative-minded reinforcements.

There has been debate surrounding where young starlet Kobbie Mainoo fits within Amorim’s team, as some feel the 19-year-old should be operating in deeper areas of the pitch, while others see him as a player who is best-suited to playing further forward.
However, Mainoo’s main issue when playing deeper is the extra space he has to cover, but with some fans pointing to Stach as a “perfect partner” for the young player, he may start to excel in a deeper role should United act on their interest.
Mainoo is currently sidelined with a calf injury but is expected to return before the end of the season.
