Manchester United ‘front runners’ in Alphonso Davies negotiations following Real Madrid’s new decision
Manchester United have reportedly advanced their move for Alphonso Davies this summer following Real Madrid’s latest decision on the Bayern Munich star.
Rúben Amorim is starting to shape his Manchester United squad, with the 39-year-old gaining a clearer understanding of the players at his disposal.
Weeks of training have allowed the team to begin adapting to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, while the head coach evaluates their strengths and areas that require improvement.

At the same time, United are preparing their 2025 transfer plans, with the summer window being prioritised due to a limited budget in January.
While Amorim has been instrumental in identifying the squad’s needs, the recruitment process is now being led by sporting director Dan Ashworth and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell.
United’s Davies advance
United want to sign a new left-back this summer, and one of the names on the club’s list is Bayern Munich’s 24-year-old star Alphonso Davies, who is out of contract this summer.
With the Canadian international yet to sign a new deal at the Bundesliga outfit, he would be allowed to discuss potential transfers to other clubs as a free agent from Janaury onwards.
According to German transfer specialist Christian Falk, United have now requested a meeting with Davies and his agents in January.
However, with Davies reportedly demanding a £12.5 million signing fee and wages of £13.3 million a year, which equates to just over £ 250 a week, United will likely want to lower these numbers before getting the move over the line.
Real Madrid’s decision
This comes after Real Madrid, who have been courting Davies but have taken a stubborn stance surrounding their approach for the player.
According to AS, via Sport Witness last month, Los Blancos have already submitted their wage and signing bonus package for the player, and are adamant that they will not be drawn into a battle with other clubs.
The Spanish outlet claim that United are the side who are pushing hard for left-back at the moment, with his agent just trying to make the most out of the situation.
Understandably, Davies is demanding a high wage and signing bonus, as the actual transfer between the Bavarian club and Old Trafford would be free – but United are aiming to lower their average salary over the coming seasons, which will no doubt prove a sticking point in negotiations.
