Manchester United star ‘frustrated’ under Rúben Amorim and ‘open’ to leaving, he’s only started four times
According to a new report, one Manchester United star is becoming frustrated after only starting four times under Rúben Amorim and is open to a departure this summer.
Manchester United head into the 2025 January transfer window in a state of disarray, reeling from four successive defeats in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, although recent draw with league leaders Liverpool has reinstated belief in the squad.
Rúben Amorim faces an uphill battle to reinforce a squad that urgently needs a left-back, at least one centre-back, a striker, and several midfielders.
However, years of extravagant spending under Erik ten Hag have left the club financially stretched, making significant signings a daunting challenge.
To address these issues, United are shifting their focus toward offloading players in January and the summer. This strategy aims to free up funds and create the financial flexibility necessary to rebuild the squad for the long term.
Garnacho is frustrated at United under Amorim
According to a new report from TBR Football, United winger Alejandro Garnacho has become frustrated under the 39-year-old head coach.
It is claimed that amid his reduced role at United, he is open to a potential return to his former club, Atletico Madrid, where he departed to head to Manchester as an Academy signing in 2020.
Garnacho signed a contract extension in April 2023 that has tied him down to United until June 2028, but amid reports that United would consider serious offers for the player, Atleti is interested in resigning the player.
Garnacho’s sale would help United alleviate their current financial burdens, as any money raised from his potential transfer would go down as pure profit.
United signed the 20-year-old from Atleti in October 2020 for around £420,000, and according to the CIES Football Observatory, he now has a value of around £80 million.
Why Garnacho is struggling in Amorim’s new system
Although Garnacho has made 11 appearances under United’s new head coach, only four of these have come from the start, and he has only completed 90 minutes once, coming off after 86, 59, and 59 minutes in his other three starts.
Garnacho is struggling in the new 3-4-3 system as the attacking positions do not suit his srengths.
The young winger excelled under Ten Hag as he was playing very wide, allowing him space and time on the ball to run at opposition defences, while not having to receive the ball with his back to goal.
However, in Amorim’s attacking midfield positions, the Argentina international is struggling to perform well while playing more centrally, which has had the opposite effect on Amad Diallo.
Amad has exploded on the scene since Amorim joined the club, contributing to eight goals in 11 fixtures, and is now considered one of only two untouchable players at United.
