Man Utd team news: Three youngsters get Europa League boost for Bodø/Glimt clash
Manchester United face Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday evening in Ruben Amorim’s second game in charge.
Ruben Amorim’s first game as Manchester United boss ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
The new boss would have taken many things from the game, which had positives and negatives, and now has a quick turnaround for his first match at Old Trafford.
United resume their Europa League campaign. They have drawn three and won one so far, which leaves them 15th in the league standings at the moment.
Hosting Bodø/Glimt in Thursday evening provides an opportunity for Amorim to get his first win and move into a better position for automatic qualification to the knockout stages.
There is expected to be changes to the team as the 39-year-old looks to assess different players within his new squad.
Three youngsters get Bodø/Glimt boost
Amorim has already made it clear that he wants to utilise the Academy at United like he did during his time in charge at Sporting in Portugal.
16-year-old centre-back Godwill Kukonki travelled with the first team on the weekend against Ipswich and while he was not included on the bench, it would have been good experience for him.
Kukonki was excluded from the Under-19s UEFA Youth League clash against AZ Alkmaar on Tuesday evening, which suggests he could again be set to be involved with the first-team.
This time, the young defender will be hoping to make the bench, which is slightly larger in European competitions than in the Premier League.
Another player who missed out on the U19s squad was Jim Thwaites, who has been spotted in training under Amorim this past week.
The 16-year-old midfielder could also be an outside shout to be included on the bench for Amorim after impressing in the Academy teams so far this season.
Finally, it has been reported by the Manchester Evening News that Jack Kingdon is also in contention to make the squad against Bodø/Glimt on Thursday.
It is good to see the potential youth involvement already under the Portuguese boss, who won’t be afraid to get youngsters involved if he sees positives from them behind the scenes.
