One of Manchester United’s current stars has reportedly formally asked to leave Old Trafford this summer as Rúben Amorim issues his price tag.
Manchester United are just days away from kicking off their 2025/26 Premier League season. The club have completed a number of deals already this summer, but there looks likely to be more incomings and outgoings before the window ends.
From the five outcast players that have been excluded from training to force them out of the club, only one has left so far this summer. Marcus Rashford has completed his loan move to Barcelona, with the Spanish side having an option to buy him next summer for £26 million.
Jadon Sancho looks set to leave in the coming weeks as he’s received interest from Italian side Roma, amongst other suitors. So far this summer, it has been difficult to move Sancho on due to his high-wage demands and a perceived willingness to spend a year of his career on the bench at United if necessary.
Antony and Tyrell Malacia have had fewer suitors this window, but they’ll likely both move this summer, even if it is for far less when the United pay for them. The final member of the “bomb squad” has strained his relationship with the United fans as he looks to force through a move.
Garnacho pressuring United to drop price tag
CaughtOffside have reported that, amid his wish to join Club World Cup champions Chelsea this summer, Alejandro Garnacho has now formally asked to leave United.
The Argentine has personal terms agreed with Enzo Maresca’s side, but the two clubs have yet to decide on a price. Amorim’s asking price for Garnacho has already lowered considerably, dropping from £70 million to £40 million.
Even with the reduced asking price, Chelsea are still trying to negotiate United down. The same report indicated that Chelsea’s current offer is £30 million plus bonuses, but the value of the bonuses is currently unknown.
It is also reported that Garnacho is “pressuring” United to make a further reduction to their asking price to facilitate his exit from the club.
Garnacho’s received a lot of interest this window
Garnacho has received several suitors this summer, including Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, and Aston Villa. However, it has always seemed that Chelsea was his preferred destination.
Chelsea were first linked to Garnacho in January, when he and Kobbie Mainoo were rumoured to be for sale to help the club’s precarious PSR situation.
What’s equally notable are the clubs that didn’t want to sign Garnacho, as well as the ones that did. The Manchester Evening News has reported that Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, and Arsenal all considered Garnacho but ultimately pursued alternatives.
It speaks to the issues United have had with Garnacho that these clubs opted not to pursue him, despite his undoubted talent. This is likely due to a combination of his off-field media antics and on-field wastefulness, which deterred these suitors.
