Manchester United’s first priority this summer has been explained as a “good relationship” with one European club opens the door to three potential signings.
Manchester United are looking to entirely overhaul the squad Rúben Amorim inherited from Erik ten Hag as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS delegation look to correct the woes of the past.
It’s expected that many high-profile players will depart this summer, with those on loan like Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia to be sold once the season is over.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans will all depart once their contracts expire, while other players such as Casemiro are likely to be sold, too.
Meanwhile, multiple reports have indicated that Amorim wants to bring in a new striker, attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, centre-back, and possible replacement for either Altay Bayındır or André Onana in the goalkeeping department.
Door open for three United transfers
Earlier this season, it seemed inevitable that the Old Trafford club would sign Geovany Quenda from Amorim’s previous club, Sporting CP, this summer, with the head coach a big fan of the winger.
However, news broke earlier this month that the player would instead be joining Chelsea, which left many shocked and some questioning whether this had fractured United’s relationship with Sporting.
However, according to GiveMeSport, the relationship between United and Sporting remains “workable” despite the Quenda saga.
Further, it’s stated that United and Sporting’s relations leave the Old Trafford club open to signing either striker Victor Gyökeres, midfielder Morten Hjulmand, or winger Francisco Trincão this summer.
Amorim’s first priority explained
However, the above report further explains that the club’s “first priority” this summer is to offload a high number of players they no longer deem fit for the club.
United are said to be seeking a buyer for Casemiro this summer after failing to offload him in the 2024 summer window and in January this year.
Also, it’s mentioned that decisions will be made at the end of the season with respect to Rasmus Højlund and Onana amid Amorim’s want for a new striker and goalkeeper.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there have been enquiries from Italy surrounding Højlund, with other reports stating that Napoli are interested in the 22-year-old this summer.
