Manchester United are considering the loan exits of six players in January amid the Premier League’s point deductions decision for the 2023/24 campaign.

Manchester United enter the 2025 January transfer window in a challenging moment, having endured four straight defeats in the Premier League and Carabao Cup before the turn of the year.

A hard-fought 2-2 draw with league leaders Liverpool and a tense FA Cup penalty shootout win over Arsenal have brought some early encouragement in 2025, easing pressure on the squad and lifting morale.

Rúben Amorim faces the critical task of addressing the team’s deficiencies, including the need for a left-back, a centre-back, a striker, and several midfielders. However, the financial strain from heavy spending under Erik ten Hag has limited the club’s ability to make immediate reinforcements.

To address these constraints, United are focusing on offloading players in January and the summer to generate funds and set the foundation for a much-needed rebuild.

United considering January loan exits for six players

While United are focusing on selling high-salary players across 2025, the chances of the club being able to offload players permanently are slim, so the club are open to letting multiple players leave on loan.

According to the Manchester Evening News, there are four young stars the club are eyeing for loan moves in January as they aim to hand their up-and-coming young players experience playing first-team football.

Two of those who are touted for switches away from the club on a temporary basis are Dan Gore and Harry Amass. Gore has suffered from injury issues in the last year, and while Amass has been touted as a potential left-back for the future, the club see him as a little too inexperienced to throw him in Amorim’s side.

Further, U18s attacking duo Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Williams are also being considered for loan exits as they look to make the step up from Academy to senior football.

Two other players who look likely to leave on loan this month are Marcus Rashford and Antony. The former recently expressed a desire for a new challenge and has been strongly linked with a loan exit to AC Milan.

Antony is understood to have garnered significant interest from La Liga side Real Betis, while there are also reports that the Brazilian winger is being eyed by Galatasaray.

Premier League confirm 2023/24 PSR ruling

This comes amid confirmation that the Premier League have found no Profit and Sustainability Regulation breaches from clubs during the 2023/24 campaign, meaning no points deductions will be handed to United.

Manchester United have been wavering on the borderline of breaching the PSR rules for some time following seasons of lavish spending under Ten Hag, with deals such as £60 million for Casemiro and £85 million for Antony being scrutinised heavily.

United are hoping that by offloading players with bloated wage packages, such as Rashford, Casemiro, and Antony, they can significantly reduce their current outgoings and focus on a much more streamlined transfer approach.

Although the club are clear for the 2023/24 season, they are still thought to be under scrutiny regarding the current season and have little funding for new incomings unless they are able to sell first in 2025.
