Man Utd: Sevilla chairman releases new statement on Hannibal Mejbri’s situation
Following speculation surrounding Hannibal Mejbri’s relationship with Sevilla manager Quique Sánchez Flores and his position in the squad, chairman José María del Nido has spoken out.
Del Nido spoke with the media today to address the rumours that the 21-year-old – who left Manchester United on loan this month – had fallen out with Flores and would not be available for selection for the foreseeable future.
The chairman said: “We are very excited about Hannibal, we are convinced that he is going to play a lot.
“Hannibal is a magnificent professional, he trains well, he takes care of himself… everyone is happy with him, don’t trust other stories.”
This comes after Sevilla manager Quique Sánchez Flores released a statement last week saying that Mejbri had been dropped from the squad for the match against CA Osasuna.
Flores said: ” We are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla and what it means
“Let’s see if the boy applies himself, and I think that in the end, he will understand perfectly what we want.”
Despite this, Mejbri was included in the squad but did not come off the bench in the 1-1 draw.
Mejbri made his debut for Sevilla – his only appearance so far – as a late substitute in the dominant 5-1 loss to Girona last weekend before being left out of the squad for the midweek defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey.
However, the young Tunisian is now expected to get significantly more game time for the Spanish club during the remainder of his time there this season.
