Man Utd set sights on Bournemouth star after missing out on Antoine Semenyo

After missing out on Antoine Semenyo in January, Manchester United are set to re- negotiate with Bournemouth for a £40 million-rated star.

Manchester United experienced a quiet January transfer window, with no significant arrivals or departures during a month in which three different head coaches took charge of the first team.

At the beginning of the winter window, with Rúben Amorim still at the club, United attempted to sign Antoine Semenyo, but the forward ultimately completed a move to Manchester City instead for a fee of £62.5 million.

In an interview with his new side, he cited the quality of United’s then coach, players, and system as to why he decided to join the blue side of Manchester.

The Ghanaian international would have been a perfect fit in hindsight for Michael Carrick’s system after reverting to a more traditional 4-2-3-1 formation.

Man Utd interested in Marcus Tavenier

With it being confirmed last week that Manchester United will target left-wing reinforcements in the summer, a whole host of players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the likes of the highly rated Yan Diomande being scouted, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White has also been touted as a potential fit, and United could negotiate a cut-price fee should Forest be relegated to the Championship.

However, as reported by the Daily Mail, Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier is a name that has been added to their list of potential left-wing targets in the summer. United face competition from fellow Champions League spot rivals Aston Villa as well as Nottingham Forest for the 26-year-old.

The former Middlesbrough forward’s contract runs until 2029, with it being reported that he could be valued at around £40 million.

Tavernier fits INEOS’ transfer strategy

Naturally, Manchester United’s transfer targets will depend on where they finish in the league, with a Champions League finish enough to attract the top names.

Tavernier, however, would be a perfect player to add to this United side, whether they qualify for Champions League football or not, owing to his versatility across the forward line.

The 26-year-old is in his peak, and has featured across the whole front line for Bournemouth this season, scoring five and assisting four goals from left wing, right wing and attacking midfield, and would be a good fit for United’s fluid forward line.

Prior Premier League experience is also a factor that INEOS have been implementing in their transfer strategy. The 26-year-old has played 107 Premier League games since joining the club in 2022/23, and would add valuable depth to a side that will look to make deep runs across multiple competitions next season.
