Manchester United are set to make a number of signings this summer. With a lot of focus expected to be on the midfield, the club have identified a Norwegian defender who they think is a perfect fit at Old Trafford.
Last summer, Manchester United started the first phase of the squad’s rebuild, spending over £200 million to completely transform an attack that struggled to score goals last season.
They brought in Premier League experience in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, while also signing the highly-rated talent Benjamin Šeško.
The club parted ways with a number of marquee players, including the likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, to fund the rebuild.
This summer, the club are expected to oversee a major midfield rebuild, with Casemiro confirming his departure from Old Trafford, with Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes also not guaranteed to be at the club at the end of the summer.
Despite this, Manchester United have seemingly identified a Norwegian defender who they believe is an excellent fit for the club going into next season.
Man Utd identify Ryerson as a right-back target
Manchester United’s two current right-back options are Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, with Dalot being the clear first-choice.
The Portuguese right-back has started 21 games in the Premier League, while Mazraoui has been limited to just six.
The links to Ryerson come after Real Madrid reportedly expressed interest in Dalot, who is already being considered to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and after Dani Carvajal reportedly expressed frustration with his role under current boss Alvaro Arbeloa.
According to Sports Boom, United have identified Ryerson as a potential replacement, and he is seen as the perfect strategic fit to solve their full-back rotation issues, while also being particularly valued for his delivery and defensive discipline.
Diogo Dalot back to his best
The Norwegian right-back is under contract at Borussia Dortmund until the end of the 2027/28 season, and it’s believed that he is ready to make a move this summer. The outlet reports that a bid of around £35 million would be enough to sign the 28-year-old this summer.
Despite facing competition from Newcastle, Manchester United’s likely Champions League football next season would make the move to Old Trafford much more appealing.

Although a case could be made for full-back depth should United qualify for Champions League football, Dalot has certainly cemented himself as the club’s best right-back option during Michael Carrick’s first five games at the helm.
Under Ruben Amorim, the 26-year-old’s performances took quite a major downturn, with fan sentiment towards the right-back souring after a string of poor performances at both right and left wing-back.
Having been restored to his preferred position in Carrick’s 4-2-3-1 setup, Dalot is certainly making a case for most improved player under the interim boss, despite Kobbie Mainoo’s return to the side stealing the headlines.
