Manchester United’s expected squad vs Bournemouth as Rúben Amorim reinstates Marcus Rashford
Rúben Amorim is expected to reinstate Marcus Rashford as he selects his 20-man Premier League squad as Manchester United face Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United squad are preparing to resume their Premier League campaign as they aim to climb up from 13th place in the table.
Their last outing ended in heartbreak as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage after a thrilling 4-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Despite the result, the performance provided plenty of reasons for optimism.
In the league, United are riding high after a dramatic 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Manchester City. Late magic from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo saw them snatch all three points in stunning fashion.
Next, United return to Old Trafford to take on Bournemouth. Amorim’s side are currently six points behind Nottingham Forest, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
Injuries force Amorim to reinstate Rashford in the squad
Amorim is expected to reinstate Marcus Rashford to his squad that faces Bournemouth as three of his 24-man first-team regulars are unavailable.
Rashford has not been in either of United’s last two squads against Manchester City or Tottenham but with Victor Lindelöf out after an injury in mid-week, Rashford is the obvious replacement.
Matthijs de Ligt missed the Carabao Cup tie due to illness, but with the Dutchman having conducted some pre-match media duties, it’s thought that this is not a serious issue, and he may return when United enter Old Trafford.
This would leave Christian Eriksen out of the team. The Danish international has barely featured under Amorim but started against Spurs, failing to impress in the process.
He was substituted after 55 minutes and replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, with United looking much better and scoring three goals after Eriksen came off.
Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are also out of action, with the former not expected back for “several weeks”, according to Amorim.
Should the 39-year-old not want to reinstate Rashford, the other potential replacement for Lindelöf in the team would be midfielder Toby Collyer, or keeping Eriksen in the squad and swapping Lindelöf for De Ligt compared to the team that faced Spurs.
