Man Utd reliant on Champions League finish if they want to sign Premier League duo

Manchester United must secure a place in the Champions League to stand a chance at securing the signing of two elite Premier League midfield talents.

Manchester United prioritised their attacking line in the previous summer transfer window with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško all proving to be vital assets to United’s recent success.

However, fans have been calling out for attention to turn towards the midfield department, with the announcement of Casemiro’s departure at the end of the season paired with a likely exit for fellow South American, Manuel Ugarte.

United’s newer strategy of Premier League-proven talents has highlighted two standout names in their search for midfield recruits.

But the club must ensure that they finish the season with a Champions League position to stand any chance of securing pen to paper with the English midfield stars.

Man Utd need UCL for Wharton and Anderson

English starlets Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson‘s stocks have skyrocketed since bursting onto the scene this season, with the pair earning huge credits among the Premier League fanbase.

As Man United’s midfield search continues, the pair have been in the conversation, but it would come at a high cost.

The Sun reports that qualifying for the Champions League is a non-negotiable for United if they want to bring Anderson or Wharton to Old Trafford.

United’s rivals, Manchester City, appear to be the most likely destination for either of the midfielders, with a place in the Champions League almost guaranteed on the blue side of Manchester.

Both players look likely to move on from their current clubs at the end of the season, with Nottingham Forest currently in a relegation battle and Crystal Palace seeming to be in a stage of transition with a new manager and many arrivals and departures at Selhurst Park.

The pair would favour a move which offers the chance to perform on Europe’s biggest stage against Europe’s biggest teams.

How would Anderson and Wharton improve United?

Anderson offers the athleticism in midfield that United have been looking for, with the ability to connect defence and attack, breaking up opposition chances and transitioning his side into creating chances.

Anderson excels at operating in tight spaces, finding space and linking up with forward players to cut open opponents.

Meanwhile, Wharton is an elite passer of the ball, with elements of world-class one-touch play, manoeuvring the ball away from pressure and into space.

Both profiles would provide the depth that European football would demand of United, presumably functioning alongside Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, who don’t necessarily possess the raw athleticism to cover ground and reach top speeds.

A move for either player would demand a heavy fee for United; however, a Champions League place hands United two clear advantages: more financial ability and a stronger pull for talent.

For now, United’s attention remains fixated on Aston Villa, as the Red Devils look to get back to winning ways under Michael Carrick in a crucial fixture at Old Trafford with both clubs fighting for third place in the Premier League.
