Manchester United fans have been able to see Mason Mount train for the first time in around three months as Rúben Amorim prepares his side to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Manchester United are back in Europa League action as they host Real Sociedad in the second leg of their round of 16 tie.

The first leg in San Sebastián saw Joshua Zirkzee put Rúben Amorim’s side ahead, only for Mikel Oyarzabal to equalise from the penalty spot, leaving the tie finely poised at 1-1 on aggregate.

Now, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake, both sides will be eager to seize the advantage at Old Trafford. The winner will go on to face either Olympique Lyonnais or FCSB, with the French side currently leading 3-1 ahead of their second leg.

United’s last outing ended in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, a performance that left many fans encouraged. With the Old Trafford crowd behind them, the Reds will look to book their place in the next round on Thursday night.

United hold open training session ahead of Sociedad clash

As happens ahead of every European fixture, United invited a set of reporters to observe the first few minutes of their training session the day before the game, with those in attendance able to witness Mason Mount’s return.

Mount has been unavailable for Amorim for the past few months after suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester City in December, but he has returned to training ahead of a crucial end to the campaign.

According to The Athletic, the Real Sociedad fixture has come too soon for the English midfielder and he will not be involved on Thursday evening, but his return is a fantastic sign for Amorim amid his limited options.

Further, James Ducker from The Telegraph has clarified that Amorim is “desperate” to keep Mount fit for the remainder of this campaign as he sees the player as a fantastic addition to his squad in one of the two No. 10 roles.

Beyond Mount, Manuel Ugarte has returned to training, although Leny Yoro was not spotted after a half-time substitution against Arsenal due to injury. Harry Maguire was also not in training.

Academy midfielders Jack Fletcher and James Scanlon were both present for training, while Chido Obi was also involved despite not being in contention to play after the club did not register him for the second half of the Europa League campaign.

As for first-team players, the usual, such as Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Højlund and others, were all involved. The training squad list can be found below.
