Man Utd ‘ready to sell second star after Alejandro Garnacho’ as part of £240m mega-clear out

With Alejandro Garnacho’s exit from Old Trafford all but confirmed, it appears Manchester United are prepared to part ways with more than one academy star this summer.

Ruben Amorim has made no secret of his plans to rebuild Manchester United’s squad this summer, with a number of high-profile players set to leave.

High profile stars such as Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and most recently Alejandro Garnacho all look set to be exiting Old Trafford in the next few months.

For Garnacho, the reason for his exit seems to be attitude related, with Amorim seemingly unhappy with the winger’s response to being benched for the majority of the Europa League final.

This comes after a season where he was a key component for United, only missing two Premier League games this campaign.

United ready to let second academy star leave

According to reports from Football Insider, as per ex-United chief scout Mick Brown, the club are prepared to accept transfer offers for Kobbie Mainoo this summer.

Brown says that United are looking for bids of around £70 million for Mainoo in order to raise the funds they so desperately need to bring in Amorim’s targets ahead of next season.

Should both of the Academy stars be sold, United could look to generate around £130 million from both of their exits. Alongside them, Marcus Rashford (£40m), Antony (£35m), Jadon Sancho (£25m) and Tyrell Malacia (£10m) are all expected to be sold, with the club potentially set to receive £240 million for all of these players.

This would no doubt leave a lot of fans heartbroken, as Mainoo had his breakout season last year, earning a call up to the England squad at the Euros and scoring the winner against rivals Man City in the FA Cup final.

United could sell Mainoo despite warnings

United’s former scout has previously warned the club to not let the academy star leave, stating that he would be “holding on to Mainoo at all costs”.

Brown continued: “He’s been in and out of the team this season and didn’t sign the new contract they offered. I think he’s a top-class midfielder who could start for Man United and for England for the foreseeable future, and he’s come out of the academy.

“But that’s not the way the club sees it and not the way Amorim sees it. I don’t think Amorim sees him fitting in with his system and how he wants to play.

“After missing out on the Champions League, they might have to sell. The talk at the club is more about what sort of fee they could get for him and where he’s going to go.

“The money needs to be enough that they can find a replacement because you can’t keep letting people go if you haven’t got people coming in.“

Like Brown, many supporters will be against this move and it would leave United without an Academy starter as a guarantee in the matchday squad.
