Manchester United have learnt their chances of signing Randal Kolo Muani this summer after Juventus make a statement on their intentions with the French attacker.

Manchester United are preparing to target attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.

United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per match. Their inconsistent performances at Old Trafford have only added to concerns.

Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, with Antony joining Real Betis, Marcus Rashford moving to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley heading to Walsall for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite these departures, United did not bring in any attacking replacements, with their only January arrivals being defensive additions—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. However, Amorim has suggested that Dorgu could also be utilised as an attacking option.

United dealt Kolo Muani transfer blow

During the early weeks of the January window, United were closely monitoring the situation of France forward Randal Kolo Muani, who was set to exit Paris St. Germain on loan that month as he was deemed surplus to options.

Despite United reportedly entering the race for the player, they lost out as he departed to Serie A side Juventus on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Although some felt that United may have had a shot at him in the summer instead, Juve director Cristiano Giuntoli has made it clear that his club are looking to sign the 26-year-old permanently in the summer.

“Our relationship with PSG is excellent. We moved early and with great determination to beat the competition,” the Juventus director explained to Sky via GFFN.

“Our intention is to continue with him. We’ll sit down at the end of the season to see how to make it happen.”

United need a different type of forward

While Kolo Muani is undoubtedly a good forward, United need a player who is more of a goalscorer, and Amorim knows this.

“We have to improve. We create chances, we don’t score,” the 40-year-old said last week. “We have many shots inside the box, and we catch [hit] always one player, so these small things, I think we can improve.”

What United need is to sign a proven goalscorer who can finish off the chances United create, as well as bring others into play – and a player like Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyökeres would fit the bill.

“I think Amad can score more, Bruno [Fernandes] can score more, even Kobbie Mainoo can score more, playing in that position a little bit further up the pitch,” Amorim continued, and signing one of the two above names would do just that.

United have plenty of creative options, such as Fernandes, Amad, and Dorgu, but with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to put away their chances, a more experienced central striker is essential.
