Man Utd’s first summer transfer ‘pretty much agreed’ as club ‘optimistic’ of £70m cash injection

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on securing their first transfer business of the summer 2026 window as the club hope for around £70 million.

Manchester United’s 2026 winter transfer window passed with very little activity, as no major arrivals or departures were completed involving Michael Carrick’s first-team squad.

The club did approve several loan deals for Academy players on deadline day in order to give their young talents more senior experience, but any significant decisions regarding the men’s first team were postponed until the summer.

One major update during January was the news that Casemiro will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, highlighting the likelihood that United will need to recruit several midfielders in the upcoming window.

However, with uncertainty still surrounding who will lead the side into the 2026/27 season, the club are continuing to work through their plans for the summer transfer market.

Rashford to Barcelona ‘pretty much agreed’

When Marcus Rashford signed with Barcelona on loan for the duration of the 2025/26 season, a £26 million option to buy was added to the deal. While Barcelona recently attempted to renegotiate the fee, United said no and stood firm in their initial agreement.

With the transfer window set to open in mid-June, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has explained he feels the deal is pretty much agreed, with all parties now said to be happy with the terms.

“I think it’s pretty much agreed already. I think that’s going to happen as it is,” He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast.

“I think they’ve got the terms that they’re happy with. I think they know that there’s no way Rashford’s going to come back, even with Carrick or the change in management.

“I just don’t think it’s going to happen. He’s moved on. So they’ve got to accept it. And I don’t think it’ll affect them badly in terms of taking the money in instalments.

“It suits all parties. They’ve probably got slightly more on the instalments than they would have done if they wanted the payments up front. And I think as long as they’ve got it on the books, it’s coming in, then it’ll be fine for both parties.”

United hoping for £70m injection in June

Beyond United’s pending £26 million for Rashford, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the club are optimistic of securing as much as £70 million once Rasmus Højlund’s transfer to Napoli is finalised.

The Danish striker signed with Napoli on loan last summer for a fee of around £5 million, but should they qualify for the Champions League next season, this becomes a permanent transfer for a further £39 million.

Napoli currently sit third in the Serie A, five points above the minimum required to qualify for the Champions League, which gives United hope that both transfers will go through in June.

This would allow United to have immediate access to early funds for a transfer window where the club are expected to go big and spend well over £100 million on several new midfielders.
