Manchester United academy star rejects fresh contract, INEOS may need to sell this summer
Manchester United academy star Willy Kambwala has reportedly refused to sign a new contract, meaning INEOS may have to sell this summer.
Born on August 27, 2004, Manchester United‘s Willy Kambwala began his career in the youth ranks of Sochaux, a club known for its strong emphasis on developing young talent.
His performances at the youth level quickly garnered attention, showcasing the exceptional physical attributes, composure, and tactical understanding of the game that fans have seen under Erik ten Hag. These qualities helped him stand out as a potential future star in the world of football.

In October 2020, Kambwala made the next step in his career by signing with Manchester United, with the club excitedly announcing his capture at the time.
At United, he looked to continue his development, playing primarily with the club’s under-18 and under-21 teams, but suffered multiple injuries that halted his progress. However, during an injury-ridden season under Erik ten Hag, Kambwala was given the chance to shine for the first team, playing 10 times and helping the club lift the FA Cup trophy.
According to German transfer journalist Christopher Michel, Kambwala has rejected a new contract offer from Manchester United following his debut season at the club.
Enquiries have been received from the MLS, Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, and La Liga, and it is said that his preference is “probably” La Liga, despite the fact that he was initially raised in French football.
If Kambwala is not interested in renewing his contract this summer, then INEOS might have to act quickly and sell the 19-year-old. His current contract expires in 2025, meaning that next summer, he will be able to walk away from Old Trafford for free.
United are looking at signing up to three new centre-backs this window, with the club continually linked with all of Matthijs de Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Leny Yoro, meaning that Kambwala’s chances next season may be limited.
If this is the case, then it may be best for the club to cash in on Kambwala’s talents and use this money to fund new transfers, as Ten Hag’s squad needs an overhaul.
