Premier League confirm Man United vs Newcastle referee as worrying pattern emerges
A worrying pattern has emerged as Manchester United have the referees for their Newcastle game confirmed by the Premier League.
After falling to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, Manchester United return to their home ground for the second time in four days as they welcome Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Eddie Howe‘s men sit just three points above United in the league table, and with two games to go, both sides are fighting alongside Chelsea for a spot in next season’s Europa League competition.

Despite these final two games, United will have half an eye on the upcoming FA Cup final against Manchester City in just under two weeks’ time. This is a second route into the European competition should the club fail to finish inside the top six.
The match officials have been confirmed, but a worrying pattern has emerged.
Confirmed officials
Rob Jones (pictured below) will referee on Wednesday evening at Old Trafford. Rather worryingly, Jones has also officiated the other two fixtures between the two clubs this season, with United losing both times – 0-3 at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup and 1-0 in the Premier League at St James’ Park.
Jones also officiated United’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City, Manchester City’s 1-0 loss, and Newcastle’s 4-3 win over West Ham.
Ian Hussin and Lee Betts will be on the sidelines, acting as Jones’ assistant referees during the game. Keith Stroud has been handed the fourth official job, separating Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe on Wednesday evening.
Jarred Gillett has been handed the video assistant referee job, with whom Eddie Smart will assist.
