Manchester United are signing Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in a double deal from Bayern Munich to enhance Erik ten Hag’s squad.

Manchester United made a strong start to the 2024 transfer window, signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and beating Real Madrid to secure Leny Yoro from Lille.

These two acquisitions cost a combined £88 million, meaning the club now needed to sell players to finance further transfers. with Erik ten Hag sanctioning the sales of Mason Greenwood, Willy Kambwala, and Alvaro Fernandez, among others.

United then turned to strengthening key areas, particularly in midfield, right-back, and centre-back, with the latter two positions set to be reinforced by new signings.

On Saturday, it was revealed that United had agreed on a fee with Bayern Munich for the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. Both transfers are set to be finalised simultaneously.

On a day dubbed ‘De Ligt and Mazraoui Day’ by journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Italian transfer expert has now explained what will happen on Monday as the two players sign.

Earlier in the morning, the Dutchman and Moroccan arrived at Munich airport. The pair will embark on a flight from the German city to Manchester, where they will undergo their medical tests together.

After the medical tests are completed, both players will sign their respective contracts with their new club, marking them as the third and fourth signings of the summer.

As for the announcement, this part is unclear. When Zirkzee joined Old Trafford, the club waited until the next morning to confirm the deal, while Yoro’s announcement took place the same evening he signed.

De Ligt and Mazraoui are set to heavily reinforce Ten Hag’s defensive line. It is thought that they will join the new squad as soon as possible, potentially holding their first day of training on Tuesday.

If all goes smoothly, they are both expected to be able to play against Fulham on Friday, the opening day of the Premier League season.
