Manchester United have reportedly made it clear how they see Benjamin Šeško’s role developing next season as they start the search for a new striker.
Benjamin Šeško has hit top form in recent weeks for Manchester United, scoring five times in his last six appearances for the Reds.
After managing just two goals in his first 16 matches under Rúben Amorim, the striker has delivered some decisive Premier League moments, finding the net against Burnley, Fulham and West Ham. His four goals across those three fixtures have earned United an additional five points in the table.
The 22-year-old arrived from RB Leipzig in the summer for an initial fee of around £66.3 million, but he has found it difficult to cement a regular starting spot amid the strong performances of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
With United back in action when they travel to Liverpool to face off against Everton, there is growing hope that the Slovenian will be handed a start to further impress under Michael Carrick.
United see Šeško as their first-choice striker
As mentioned above, Šeško has found it hard to maintain a consistent place in the starting XI due to a combination of injuries and United’s turbulent form.
Mbeumo has played as the front-man for the five games under Carrick thus far, scoring against Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham, while Šeško has scored in the other two games.
However, according to TEAMtalk, despite the current favouring of Mbeumo through the middle, United still see the 23-year-old as their first-choice option in the position going forward, with the club only seeking to sign another striker to play a back-up role.
The club are reportedly looking for a striker who would help take pressure off Šeško as the club’s main central goalscorer, rather than replace him in the front line next campaign.

United want experience to replace Zirkzee
With all the talk surrounding United’s No. 9 position surrounding Šeško, Mbeumo, and Cunha, many have forgotten that Joshua Zirkzee is also on the club’s books as a possible option up front.
Further to TEAMtalk’s report, it is also noted that if the Dutchman were to leave, which is looking increasingly likely, the club would want to head for a striker with plenty of experience.

United are set to lose Casemiro this summer, who is arguably the club’s most experienced senior player. His leadership in the dressing room will be sorely missed and will need to be somewhat replaced next summer.
With the Old Trafford side wanting to kick on next term and compete for trophies, bringing in a seasoned forward alongside the attacking options of Šeško, Cunha, Mbeumo, Amad, and Bruno Fernandes would be perfect, but would mean Zirkzee’s spot must be vacated.
