Louis Saha has urged Manchester United not to spend £20 million on a signing who has not impressed at Old Trafford this season.

Manchester United are looking to sign a new central midfielder this summer after Casemiro‘s poor performances have left the club exposed in the Premier League and Champions League.

Beyond this, UtdDistrict understands that the club are also 100% open to offers for Scott McTominay this summer, meaning reinforcements are needed.

Many have pointed to the fact that Sofyan Amrabat can be retained permanently this summer following his £8.5 million loan move from Fiorentina in 2023. Following a poor season overall, Amrabat won the approval of many fans with fantastic performances towards the back end of the campaign.

However, former United striker and club icon Louis Saha has expressed his hesitancy when asked whether he believes Amrabat has shown signs that United should attempt to sign him permanently this summer.

“I don’t think he’s had the best season,” he told BetFred. “In terms of commitment, you can see that he’s tried his best. He’s a very talented player that works really hard, but for him, it’s definitely been a difficult season.”

Amrabat’s loan deal, which runs until the end of June, contains a clause that would allow United to sign him for a further £20 million this summer.

“He was very impressive for Morocco during the 2022 World Cup, and I believe that was one of the main reasons why he earned his move to Manchester United. I’ve seen him in interviews, and I’m sure he loves the club.

“If he’s put in a team with the right balance and right characters, then he, as well as every other player, can produce 30% more than they have been doing. When the right setup is in place, your performances will improve, and everyone in the team will as well.

“I don’t believe Amrabat has had the best season, so I’m unsure whether he will remain at the club permanently because; I won’t lie and say I’ve been really impressed because that’s not been the case.”
