Rúben Amorim will have to make decisions on Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven as Manchester United prepare to welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in the FA Cup.

Manchester United return to FA Cup action in the fourth round as they host Premier League side Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The match marks the return of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who briefly managed United for four games following Erik ten Hag’s departure before Rúben Amorim took charge. After leaving Old Trafford, the Dutchman became Leicester City’s manager.

United’s last FA Cup fixture was a dramatic contest away to Arsenal. The Reds took the lead through Bruno Fernandes, but Diogo Dalot’s red card allowed the hosts to equalise, forcing extra time. After a gruelling 120 minutes, United triumphed on penalties.

Despite winning five of their seven matches in January, United are looking to respond after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. The Leicester clash presents an ideal opportunity to get back on track.

Dorgu and Heaven decisions made

Last week, United announced the signings of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven in the January transfer market, with both players being presented at Old Trafford before United’s recent loss against Crystal Palace.

The hope is that, over the course of this week, both players will have been able to train with their new teammates across a number of days and will be prepared to join United’s matchday squad for the first time.

United have three injuries in defence, meaning Amorim may have no choice but to select both of them.

Luke Shaw has sustained a slight setback in his rehabilitation and will not return to training until next week, while Lisandro Martínez is out for the season with a knee injury and Jonny Evans continues to struggle with a muscle problem.

Therefore, Heaven may be selected on the bench as a centre-back option, while Dorgu is in line to start at left wing-back has he shows the Old Trafford crowd what he’s made of.

Mason Mount is the only other serious injury concern for United, and he is not expected back until next month after a hamstring issue suffered almost two months ago.

Aside from Mount and the others mentioned, Amorim has a fully fit squad to choose from, although Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Marcus Rashford will not feature for the remainder of the campaign following their loan moves away from the club.

Should Heaven be selected, it is a toss-up between whether Casemiro or Victor Lindelöf will play. Still, with United having as many as five players who could start as centre-backs, the Swedish captain could lose out to Casemiro to boost midfield options.
