Manchester United are being proven correct after completely refusing January loan transfer
Manchester United are being proven correct after they rebuffed any attempts to send one of Rúben Amorim’s men on loan last month.
Manchester United have been widely criticised after their lack of attacking reinforcements during the recent winter transfer window.
The club allowed all of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley to leave on loan to Aston Villa, Real Betis, and Walsall respectively, depleting Rúben Amorim’s attacking line.
United then failed to bring in any attacking reinforcements despite the trio’s departure, with United’s remaining forward options now being Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad.
However, rumours are emerging that youngster Chido Obi-Martin may be handed his first-team debut this season after being included in first-team training of late.
United refused Zirkzee loan transfer
Although United were keen to offload some attacking talent in order to free up wages and money to spend in the summer window, one man they refused to let go of was Zirkzee.
The Netherlands international had been subject to intense interest from Italy despite only joining United last summer, with Juventus reportedly pushing for a loan transfer.
However, Tuttomercatoweb have now confirmed that despite a push from Juventus, the 23-year-old was never close to departing from Old Trafford this month.
United never intended to let him leave on loan following his £36 million arrival from Bologna, completely refusing any loan offers, and the player did not push to go either, leaving Juventus empty-handed despite their efforts.
Napoli have also been credited with an early effort to sign the player. However, his wages are said to have been a potential issue, and should they have looked to sign him permanently, Untied would have demanded a hefty fee.
United being slowly proven right on Zirkzee
The Dutch international has been a stark talking point since he joined United, as after he scored on his debut for the club in a 1-0 win over Fulham in August, he didn’t net another goal for three months until he secured a brace against Everton at the beginning of December.

However, in the last month, Zirkzee’s performances have slowly started to improve, and he was instrumental in wins against Southampton and Arsenal last month, although he is yet to impress over a series of starts.
United are looking to sign a new, experienced centre-forward this summer, but considering the attacking numbers that left in the winter window, United have been proven right to stay firm on their Zirkzee stance.
With Højlund failing to score in his last 13 appearances, Zirkzee is currently seen as United’s first-choice striker, although Amorim recently dropped both players for the Crystal Palace fixture.
