Man Utd insider: One star has been “outstanding” in training this week, Rúben Amorim must start him vs Brentford

One of Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United stars has been outstanding in training ahead of a possible debut for the club, says a training insider.

Manchester United begin this weekend’s Premier League schedule with a Saturday afternoon trip to Brentford in West London.

So far under Rúben Amorim, United have picked up two wins, two defeats and a draw, leaving them 11th in the league and struggling to show signs of sustained progress.

Their victories have come courtesy of a late Bruno Fernandes penalty against Burnley and last weekend’s 2-0 triumph over Chelsea, where Robert Sánchez’s sending-off left them firmly in control.

That result against Enzo Maresca’s side now gives Amorim the chance to guide United to consecutive league wins for the first time since taking charge, a potential springboard to building real momentum.

Lammens has been “outstanding” in training

While United’s fans have already seen new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško running out at Old Trafford for the Reds, the same cannot be said for Senne Lammens.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper signed for United on deadline day for a £18.2 million fee from Royal Antwerp, but is yet to make an appearance, with Altay Bayındır having started the two fixtures since.

However, club reporter Adam Marshall was given an inside look at the first-team training sessions this week and admitted that Lammens had been impressing by making “outstanding” saves.

“When it came to the tactical drills, there was a chance to indulge in some ballwork and, for me, to get a first glimpse of Senne Lammens, as our latest signing made one outstanding save from Joshua Zirkzee at close range,” Marshall wrote on the club’s website.

This comes not long after reports suggested that players at United already feel Lammens is “ready-made” for Premier League duty.

Lammens must start against Brentford

Understandably, Amorim has chosen to avoid playing Lammens so far, as the pressure of being a United goalkeeper is exceptionally high, and starting away against Manchester City and at home against Chelsea may have been too harsh an adjustment for the Belgian.

But, with United’s trip to Brentford, their next quest in the search for consistent Premier League form, Lammens must be handed his first start at the club.

Bayındır has not impressed so far this season with his six Premier League outings, failing to save Chelsea’s only shot on target last weekend and making fans nervous with poor touches and passes against City.

Brentford have so far shown themselves to be a weaker opposition compared to City and Chelsea this season. Although they have scored six goals, they’ve conceded ten, and United are expected to be the much more dominant side, which allows Lammens the perfect chance to play.

Following the Brentford fixture, United will welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford, and Lammens would be able to play in front of the United crowd for the first time with an appearance already under his belt and gain much-needed momentum as he fights for the No. 1 spot under Amorim.
