Manchester United have nine of Erik ten Hag’s current first-team squad potentially away with injury as the club prepare to face Bournemouth.

Manchester United‘s last three Premier League results, against Brentford, Chelsea, and Liverpool, have seen Erik ten Hag‘s side take just two points from a possible nine, despite being in a winning position during all three fixtures.

It is an issue that has left them sitting well behind their rivals for Champions League spots, with the only glory left now in the form of an FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City and a potential final against either Chelsea or Manchester City.

However, the club are first focusing on their upcoming clash against Bournemouth in the league, where Ten Hag must contend with his injury crisis.

Below are updates on each player’s injury and a potential return date.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford suffered a knock against Liverpool in the most recent tie, with Erik ten Hag saying: “I’m not sure [how bad the injury is], but I don’t think it will be long term.”

A possible return date for the winger is Saturday, 13 April, when United play Bournemouth.

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay was ruled out of United’s game against Liverpool with what the club confirmed was an injury. Later news explained that he would be out for two or three weeks after a hyperextension in his knee against Chelsea.

The midfielder could return on Saturday, 27 April, when United welcome Burnley to Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez

“Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martínez will be out of action for at least a month due to a muscle injury,” was what a club statement read earlier this month following the sustaining of a calf injury in training.

The vague nature of United’s statement meant that no specific return date can be determined, but it is expected he will return in early May.

Victor Lindelöf

Victor Lindelöf had to be substituted through injury during United’s 1-1 draw with Brentford earlier this month. A club statement read: “Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof will be out of action for at least a month due to a muscle injury.”

Once again, the vague nature of United’s statement meant that no specific return date can be determined, but it is expected he will also return in early May.

Jonny Evans

Jonny Evans’ current injury problem is unknown, and Erik ten Hag is unsure if he will miss the Liverpool tie. The Northern Ireland international did not take part in the tie but may be fit this weekend.

A possible return date for the centre-back is Saturday, 13 April, when United play Bournemouth.

Raphaël Varane

Just as with Evans, Erik ten Hag was unsure of Raphaël Varane’s fitness against Liverpool – he also did not play.

A possible return date for the centre-back is also Saturday, 13 April, when United play Bournemouth.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial has been unavailable for months after undergoing groin surgery in late January. The initial news said he would be returning in early April, but this has not happened so far.

Martial’s expected return date is unknown, as he may have already played his last game for the club.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw suffered a thigh last month at a time when United are now completely devoid of left-backs. Ten Hag said: “Yes, I expect him back, I think, before the end of the season. That is the plan, and he is still on schedule for this. He will return into our team.”

Shaw will likely return to the team in May, but a specific date cannot be estimated.

Tyrell Malacia

Tyrell Malacia has not played for United all season after undergoing knee surgery, but there were complications.

“He had setbacks during his rehab process,” Ten Hag said last month. “It takes too long; it’s bad for him. Bad for us. But now we’ve turned a point, and it’s positive – he will return soon on the pitch. I don’t think then it will take long before he’s returning in the team training.”

He will not play again this season but could return on Monday, 15 July, when United take on Rosenborg at the Lerkendol Stadion, Norway, for their first pre-season fixture of 2024.
