Rúben Amorim has confirmed that a “perfect” star is set for a return as Manchester United face Leicester City in the Premier League in the final game before the international break.

Manchester United return to Premier League action against Leicester City, with Rúben Amorim looking to build on a strong midweek showing.

United impressed on Thursday night, securing a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in the Europa League to reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Olympique Lyonnais next month.

For now, their focus shifts back to the league as they aim to improve on their current 14th-place position.

This fixture also sees United reunited with club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who managed the team for four games as interim boss before Amorim took charge in November. It will be the second time the two coaches face off this season.

United have already defeated Leicester three times this campaign, winning in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Premier League. However, all those victories came at Old Trafford, while this meeting takes place at the King Power Stadium, presenting a different test.

“Perfect” star set for United return

In the last month or so, Amorim has been hit with a swell of injuries, with key players such as Lisandro Martínez, Amad, and Kobbie Mainoo sustaining long-term issues.

Another player who has been unavailable in the last three months has been Mason Mount, but Amorim has confirmed that the player will likely return to the squad on the bench, and stated that Mount has been “perfect” with the physical aspects of his recovery.

“I really love Mason Mount. I see him and know how he suffered. I know how he does everything right – he eats right, his physical aspect is perfect,” he said.

“He’s trying too much. Maybe he is thinking too much about everything. He was a European champion, he is a talent. When a player does everything like he does, he will always have the support of everybody here at the club.

“We will try to manage the load. You saw players who had a lot of problems in time but they can then stay fit and I believe a lot in Mason Mount.”

He continued: “I think he is going to [be on] the bench. We will see, but we need every player and if he is fit, I am going to play him. He cannot play too many minutes, just five minutes of Mason Mount is perfect.”

What else did Amorim say about injuries?

Meanwhile, the United head coach had further updates on a number of other players such as Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Harry Maguire, and Mainoo.

“With the different competitions, we have to rotate,” he added. “We are risking some players. For example, Casemiro, he was so tired.

“We didn’t want to risk Ugarte [vs Sociedad]. Because today [Thursday] was a decision: in one competition, Ugarte wanted to stay here. We have Mason Mount who will return really slow, Kobbie will maybe return in a few weeks, I don’t know for sure.

“Harry Maguire, who we tried not to risk, we will see for Sunday. We need all the players and I think against Lyon [in the Europa League quarter-finals] it will be a different kind of game. The physicality is going to be a different game, more demanding in that aspect and we have a lot of difficult games in the Premier League.”

Martínez will not return until next season while there remains hope that Amad may play again before the end of the campaign.

Altay Bayındır, Tom Heaton, and Jonny Evans remain out of action, while Leny Yoro is not expected to be fit to play against Leicester after suffering an injury last weekend, although his absence is not expected to be long-term.
