Martínez, De Ligt, Zirkzee: Manchester United international injury news, Rúben Amorim hit with double blow
Rúben Amorim has been hit with a double injury blow during the international break as he prepares his Manchester United side to face Ipswich Town.
Rúben Amorim is currently assessing his Manchester United squad as they prepare for their first game under the new head coach.
Replacing Erik ten Hag in charge of the first-team squad, Amorim is set to name his first XI at the club as they face Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, away from home.
Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge in the interim and managed to secure three wins and a draw, moving the club up to 13th in the Premier League table, 15th in the Europa League, and through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Amorim will no doubt be looking to capitalise on the positive form Van Nistelrooy installed into the side as he looks to reorganise his squad to compete for the Champions League spots and other trophies.
Double injury blow
However, during the current international break, Rúben Amorim has been hit with a double injury blow that may alter his plans in the coming week ahead of the Ipswich tie.
Lisandro Martínez returned from international duty with Argentina early after it was confirmed that the centre-back had a back issue.
Reports state that Martínez will undergo tests on his lower back at Carrington in the next couple of days after he picked up a knock against Leicester City. He is likely to return to United on Sunday or Monday.
Secondly, Victor Lindelöf had to be withdrawn from Sweden’s 2-1 win over Slovakia on Saturday evening after just 26 minutes, being helped off the field by medical staff.
He is expected to undergo tests in the next few days to determine the severity of his injury.
Positive team news
However, Amorim has also received some positive news: Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Altay Bayındır all rested during their respective national fixtures on Saturday evening and a further eight players getting through their games so far unscathed.
In the last few days, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have played 90 minutes each for Portugal, with the former scoring yet another goal, while Manuel Ugarte scored a 90+12th-minute winner for Uruguay against Columbia.
Alejandro Garnacho played just 26 minutes as Argentina fell to a 2-1 loss against Paraguay, while Rasmus Højlund and Christian Eriksen completed 79 minutes for Denmark during a 2-1 loss against Spain.
Noussair Mazraoui played 90 minutes as Morocco squashed Gabon 5-1, and Academy forward James Scanlon played 78 minutes as Gibraltar drew 1-1 with San Marino.
