United find themselves 13th in the Premier League table, but the mood has improved under Ruud van Nistelrooy, who steadied the team after a turbulent period under Erik ten Hag. Optimism is growing among fans and players as they look to climb the standings.
Despite their current position, United are just four points behind Nottingham Forest, who hold a Champions League qualification spot—something United remain eager to pursue.
Amorim’s injury woes
Rúben Amorim has five injury woes to contend with as he looks to select his first XI as United’s head coach.
Three players may be out of action in defence. Harry Maguire has yet to return to training after an injury against Aston Villa last month ruled him out of action for at least a month.
At the same time, Victor Lindelöf and Lisandro Martínez had to withdraw from international duty, and there have been no updates on their conditions, although the club are expected to assess the pair soon.
In midfield, United are without Academy duo Dan Gore and Toby Collyer. Both players were ruled out last month and have yet to return to training, although there have been reports that Gore may become involved in the coming days.
Beyond this, Amorim has no other confirmed injury issues, and several players have recently returned to training.
However, it must be noted that many players have only recently returned from international duty, with South American pair Alejandro Garnacho and Manuel Ugarte flying great distances, meaning they may be afforded extra time to recover.
Returning to training
Left-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw have both returned to first-team training in the last two weeks. The pair was heavily involved in Amorim’s initial training sessions.
Leny Yoro is now fit and is set to make his debut against Ipswich, while Kobbie Mainoo is back in training having missed the last month with a hamstring injury.
Mason Mount has also returned after multiple weeks on the sidelines, and video footage from Monday’s training session showed the player raring to go and playing an attacking role.
