Wes Brown has praised one Manchester United star who he thinks will be a ‘difference maker’ for new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim started his role at Manchester United last week and is now closing in on his first game for the club against Ipswich Town on Sunday.

We have already seen the 39-year-old start to implement his new 3-4-3 formation in training at Carrington, although there remains question marks over some players’ suitability to the system.

It is not yet known who Amorim will decide to use as wingbacks, with the coach known for adapting both wingers and fullbacks for the position.

But in the heart of defence United seem better prepared with several top level centre-backs able to play across the back three.

Despite the desire to sign Jarrad Branthwaite, having the potential for a back three of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martínez is not bad at all for Amorim.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans are all decent deputies as well. Yet, one of those defenders seems more important than the others.

Yoro signed for the club in the summer and is yet to play a game due to injury but is still being touted as a ‘difference maker’ for the Portuguese coach.

That is because the French teenager has the physical attributes to thrive in the wide centre-back role, with there being question marks for the other defenders in this respect.

“Leny Yoro could be a difference maker,” former United defender Wes Brown told GiveMeSport. “I think he will be well-suited to playing in Ruben Amorim’s system.

“He is obviously still very young, but he’s already highly-rated in the game. For Manchester United to sign him ahead of Real Madrid, that says it all.

“It’s a shame he’s been out injured, but now Ruben Amorim can work with him from the very start. There’s arguably an advantage to that.

“Manchester United have had to change their defence constantly in recent months and haven’t kept enough clean sheets. That’s probably the first thing Amorim will say to his defenders.”

Brown also thinks that the return of Luke Shaw will also be beneficial for Amorim with what he brings on and off the pitch.

“I also think Luke Shaw returning to full training is a big boost,” he added. “Manchester United are going to need him to stay fit. He doesn’t just bring quality but experience and leadership.

“Obviously, Amorim and the club’s medical staff will need to assess both Luke and Leny in terms of both fitness and match readiness. I am sure both will be itching to play.”

Both players are expected to make their returns from injury on the weekend as United face the Tractor Boys.
