Manchester United have several injury concerns as Rúben Amorim delivers the latest on his squad ahead of an FA Cup clash against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United launch their FA Cup defence with a trip to North London to face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

In May 2024, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored in the final to secure the trophy for Erik ten Hag’s team at Wembley.

Eight months later, United are under the guidance of 39-year-old Rúben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag after his dismissal in October. Results have been mixed under Amorim, but the team has shown encouraging signs in key matches.

The sides last met at the Emirates in December, where Arsenal capitalised on two corners to claim victory. However, United’s performances against top teams on the road have been widely praised.

United’s latest injury news

Ahead of the trip down to North London, Amorim has four players who are confirmed absences, while there are doubts over a couple more.

Speaking to club media, the 39-year-old explained that centre-back pair Victor Lindelöf and Jonny Evans would both miss the trip.

He also stated that star forward Amad has a minor issue, but that he was confident the 22-year-old will still be available. Luke Shaw continues in his recovery, while Mason Mount is beginning rehabilitation

“Vic [Lindelöf] continues out, Jonny [Evans] continues out, Amad has a little injury, but I think he can recover,” said Amorim when asked for team news on Friday.

“Luke Shaw continues his improvements, Mason Mount also, the rest are strong to compete for a place and play the game.”

Mount is not expected to return until March 2025 after he suffered a hamstring problem against Manchester City last month.

Marcus Rashford missed the trip to Anfield last week through illness, and he was not spotted with the squad as they travelled from Stockport to London on Saturday afternoon, while Amad did.

What Arteta said about Arsenal’s injuries

Arsenal will be without Ben White (knee), Bukayo Saka (hamstring) and Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) as they welcome Amorim’s men this weekend, and will also miss Ethan Nwaneri.

“Unfortunately he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks. It’s a muscular injury,” Arteta said last week when asked about Nwaneri.

“He didn’t really know [what the injury was] to be fair. So he said: ‘I am feeling something, I don’t know what is it?’

“Obviously he has earned the right to step up and play for us. And now he has started some big games as well and impacted those games that he has done, in different positions as well.

“So yeah, I am gutted for him because that is going to stop a little bit. But it is another step in that development phase that he is in. I have been really happy with the way he has been going.”
