Manchester United have reportedly informed suitors of the fee they are aiming to secure for the transfer of André Onana this summer.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping problems have been clear in recent seasons, with André Onana unable to rediscover the level that once established him as one of Europe’s standout ball-playing goalkeepers.
Since his move from Inter Milan in 2023, the 29-year-old struggled to reproduce the form he showed before arriving at Old Trafford.
The club then strengthened their goalkeeping department in the summer by signing Belgian keeper Senne Lammens, which led to Onana joining Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan.
Lammens has made a strong start to life at United, winning over the Reds with fantastic performance in the Premier League, while Onana’s form in Turkey has been mixed.
United aiming for high Onana fee
While some of United’s other sanctioned loans last summer contained options to buy, with the Reds hoping to secure £70 million from Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund, Onana’s move did not.
With the club determined to offload the Cameroon international permanently in the summer, Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas has revealed United are asking for around £40 million for the player, somewhat hitting out at the unaffordable fee.
“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of André Onana is in the range of €45-50 million, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” he said, as relayed by Günebakış.
“I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe. His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.”
Onana aiming to remain in Europe’s top leagues
Following his spells with Ajax and Inter, Onana was well regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, so his poor form at United has hit his reputation hard.
However, as reported by SportWitness, the 29-year-old still aims to compete in Europe’s top five leagues, with Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke recently confirming that Onana will be the sole decision-maker regarding his next steps.

“Onana is on loan with us. There have been matches where he didn’t play well. There have also been many matches where he played well. I’m very pleased with Onana’s positivity, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of character,” Tekke explained.
“You have transferred from one of the best teams in the world, and you have experienced problems. He feels very comfortable here.
“The chairman’s words reflect Onana’s own thoughts. But this can sometimes change in a match. He is very happy here, but he will make his own decision about his future.”
