Manchester United have ‘made’ a decision on one of their starlets’ loan status, as a second may leave Old Trafford for a season of senior football.

Manchester United have now completed their pre-season fixtures across the summer of 2024. They began with a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg but rebounded with a 2-0 victory over Rangers in Scotland, thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill. New signing Leny Yoro made his unofficial debut following his £52 million transfer from Lille.

In their first USA fixture, United faced Arsenal and lost 2-1 but gave fans something to cheer about by winning the pre-arranged penalty shootout 4-3. They then secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Real Betis in San Diego.

Finally, United concluded their USA pre-season tour with a fixture against Liverpool at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina. Despite playing well, they lost 3-0 before flying back home to Manchester.

During the tour, many senior players missed out on game time as they were away on holiday following their respective international commitments across the 2024 European Championships and Copa America.

However, those away, such as Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Dalot, were all spotted training on their breaks in order to gear up for the 2024/25 campaign and are all due back to train with their teammates later this week.

This meant that United took an incredibly youth-filled squad to the USA, and a few of those youngsters have impressed, leading many to speculate about what the future holds for them across the coming campaign.

Two players who have received particular praise are Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, and in a recent piece from The Athletic, the latest on their futures have been explained.

According to the report, 17-year-old Amass is expected to stay with the squad this summer. Although he will likely still be playing in United’s fantastic academy, it is not a stretch to think that he will also be granted senior minutes across the campaign.

However, with Collyer, the situation is different. At 20 years old, Collyer needs to play senior minutes, and although Ten Hag rates the player, a decision has yet to be made.

The club are weighing up whether to keep him at United this summer and continue to develop him in-house this campaign or let him leave on loan to gain more senior minutes at a different club.

“A lot of my work is off the ball,” Collyer said while on tour. “I’m a really busy player. I like to get about the pitch. An area where I’d like to improve on is in possession. I think the only way you’re going to get better is by demanding the ball. Not backing away.”
