Revealed: Manchester United’s new plan for Harry Amass amid Aston Villa transfer interest
Manchester United’s 17-year-old starlet Harry Amass greatly impressed during the club’s pre-season tour last summer.
Erik ten Hag rewarded Harry Amass with a place on the plane to the United States after he was introduced to Manchester United’s first-team squad in the back-end of the 2023/24 campaign.
While he did not make his debut, Amass was included on the bench for several games, including the FA Cup semi-final clash against Coventry City.
United secured Amass’s signature in the summer of 2023 from Watford, beating Aston Villa and several other top Premier League clubs to land the highly-rated prospect.
It appeared that his breakthrough season was upon us after some terrific performances in pre-season. His assist for Amad Diallo against Real Betis was a particular highlight.
However, Ten Hag explained that the left-back needed a few more months before he was prepared for Premier League football.
It looked like a debut this season was inevitable, but the plan changed when Ten Hag was sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim.
The new head coach has full focus on the first-team squad adapting to his system and has not yet given many opportunities to the youth players.
Amass would also fit in as a wingback, which is one of the most important roles in Amorim’s team.
United’s new plan for Amass revealed
United appear to have a new plan for the 17-year-old defender, who has made 14 appearances for the Academy teams so far this season.
According to UnitedScout on X, the Reds are planning to send Amass on loan, preferably in the January transfer window if the right opportunity arises.
Amass would benefit from the experience and the report adds that he want to prove himself in a competitive first-team environment.
It was further explained that Amorim is processing the youth players at Carrington and their potential fit in the first-team, which is another explanation to the limited chances for them so far.
Villa interested in permanent Amass move
United must also recognise that clubs may attempt to tempt Amass away on a permanent basis due to his limited involvement so far.
According to recent reports, Aston Villa are considering a surprise move for the young left-back.
Since joining United in 2023, Amass has excelled in the club’s youth system, playing a key role in the U18s’ treble-winning campaign and standing out for the U21s as well.

The report explained that United are not entertaining any approaches for Amass, but long-time admirers Villa are closely monitoring his situation and contemplating a move to bring the teenager to Birmingham.
A loan deal makes the most sense, with Amorim then able to re-evaluate his levels next summer when he has more time on his hands.
