“Indeed…” Dutch journalist provides interesting update on Manchester United’s Frenkie de Jong ‘pursuit’
Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United has seemingly taken yet another twist, as claimed by a Dutch journalist on Thursday night.
Manchester United are looking to add a midfielder to their ranks this summer as Erik ten Hag‘s club looks to continue to secure signings that plug big holes in the squad.
2024 has seen Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui join the club, and more incomings are expected before the transfer deadline on 30 August.

Unfortunately, United fans are very familiar with the name Frenkie de Jong since the summer of 2022, when the Old Trafford side agreed on a deal of around £75 million for his transfer before the player refused to join.
The club spent months trying to persuade the Dutch international to join Ten Hag’s new club, but he showed no interest.
However, fast-forward to 2024, and there have once again been links between the pair. It has now been claimed in the Netherlands that talks are very much progressing.
“There is indeed great interest in Frenkie from Manchester United,” Dutch journalist Jack van Gelder explained on the television programme De Oranjezomer. “Negotiations are ongoing, I understand. In any case, they are working on it.”
De Oranjezomer (translation: “The Orange Summer“) is a Dutch-based show that discusses current affairs and summer sports, including the football transfer window.
There have been other signs that the club are set to revisit the transfer. Earlier this month reports from Spain claimed that Ten Hag remained insistent that De Jong was a key piece of his puzzle and that a swap deal between the two clubs was on the cards.
The Spanish outlet El Nacional continued by explaining that United were testing the waters of including Antony as a make-weight to reduce the fee Barcelona would demand for De Jong.
De Jong has a strong connection with multiple players at United, having played with De Ligt under Ten Hag during their incredibly successful period at Ajax.
The pair have both previously spoken about their desire to one day play together again at club level.
Whether this transfer materialises, who knows?
