Manchester United expected squad vs Everton as Rúben Amorim benefits from defensive boost
Rúben Amorim is expected to benefit from a defensive return as Manchester United face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Rúben Amorim prepares for his second Premier League match as Manchester United‘s head coach, with Everton set to visit Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United have opened Amorim’s tenure with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town and a 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt, building on the progress made under Ruud van Nistelrooy before his appointment.
This will be Amorim’s first Premier League game at Old Trafford, following his managerial debut at the stadium on Thursday evening. With points crucial to climbing the table, United will be eager to deliver a strong performance.
Currently 12th in the league with 16 points, United are six points off Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for a top-four Champions League spot.
A defensive return
Rúben Amorim is set to benefit from a defensive upgrade as Lisandro Martínez returns to a Premier League squad for the first time under Amorim.
The Argentina international was unavailable against Ipswich Town due to a back injury but returned and played 60 minutes against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.
There is a chance Harry Maguire may be with the team after he returns to training, but Amorim explained he is not ready to face Bodo/Glimt, making his return in time for Sunday unlikely as it stands.
Beyond this, Jonny Evans was unavailable to face Bodo/Glimt due to an unknown issue and has not been spotted in training since Tuesday.
With Martínez replacing Evans in the squad, no further changes are expected from the last Premier League outing.
Despite training, Leny Yoro is not expected to join the team, as Amorim confirmed the club is extremely cautious with his rehabilitation. However, Yoro is reportedly aiming for a return against Arsenal next week.
