Rúben Amorim is predicted to include a “stunning” Manchester United Academy star in his squad to face Real Sociedad as Patrick Dorgu returns to the team.

Rúben Amorim will be looking for his Manchester United side to build on their strong Europa League performances as they face Real Sociedad in the knockout stage.

Despite their struggles in the Premier League and a recent FA Cup exit, United have won all three of their European matches under the Portuguese coach and now take on La Liga opposition in the round of 16.

The first leg will be held in San Sebastián on Thursday evening, with the return fixture at Old Trafford a week later.

With their domestic form faltering and FA Cup hopes dashed, winning the Europa League represents United’s best chance of securing Champions League football next season.

Amorim to select “stunning” Academy star

United’s injury problems of late are no secret, with the club missing key players such as Lisandro Martínez, Amad, and Kobbie Mainoo last month.

This has meant that Amorim has been forced into selecting a wealth of Academy players in his recent matchday squads, and a few have also been included in the Europa League squad for the rest of the campaign.

While Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven are two new additions to the squad list, the club also chose Jack Fletcher as their third new inclusion following the player’s “stunning” performance against Arsenal in last month’s FA Youth Cup tie.

With Amorim able to select up to 12 players on his bench for this fixture, it’s expected he will bring a whole host of Academy players to Spain as there is no U21s game in midweek, with Fletcher being one of these.

Elsewhere, Patrick Dorgu will return to the matchday squad after serving one of a three-game domestic ban against Fulham, but this does not stretch to European competition, giving him licence to play.

At this moment in time, it is not known if there are any players set to return, although it’s expected that more updates will be given once the side hosts an open training session on Wednesday morning before departing to Spain.

There are doubts over the fitness of Harry Maguire after he was withdrawn through a potential injury against Fulham, but with no updates since, the hope is he will be fit to travel. Amorim will be able to select 23 players in his matchday squad.
