Manchester United stars blasted for being ‘not good enough’ and ‘stealing a living’, Erik ten Hag blamed
Erik ten Hag has been blamed for allowing Manchester United players to steal a living under his watch at Old Trafford.
After around two and a half years in charge, Erik ten Hag was sacked as manager of Manchester United late last month after leaving the club struggling across multiple competitions.
At the time of the Dutchman’s departure, United sat 14th in the Premier League table and 21st in the Europa League, leading to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his leadership team feeling as if they had no choice but to sack the 54-year-old.

Ten Hag’s assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, took charge of the club for four games and gained three wins and a draw but was swiftly ejected from the club himself when new head coach Rúben Amorim landed in Manchester.
Amorim is set to drastically change the style of football at the club, and although he will have to work with a limited budget due to the club’s spending under Ten Hag, many are excited at what the future may hold.
United stars blasted by club legend
United spent £617 million on 21 players across five transfer windows since Ten Hag took charge ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Although many of these players, such as André Onana, Leny Yoro, and Rasmus Højlund, are tipped to have a crucial future under Amorim at the club, United legend Teddy Sheringham believes that Ten Hag not being up for the job at hand meant many of his signings were stealing a living at Old Trafford.
“It’s good in the fact that the United directors backed their man and gave him money to make signings, but it was so evident from the outside that Ten Hag wasn’t up to the job and it was like, ‘What are you doing? Why are you giving this man more money to spend?’,” began Sheringham while speaking to Best Offshore Sportsbooks.
“He’s already wasted a lot of money on players. He’s bought a lot of players that are like, ‘Oh, that’s a few quid. Yeah, I’ll go and play for Man United. That’ll do.’
“There’s a big difference between wearing the shirt with pride and just nicking a few quid because someone’s paid out a lot of money for you – we’ve had too many players turning up at United thinking that’s that. I’ve made it.
“That’s not good enough for the standards of Manchester United.”
