“Ridiculous” Manchester United star slammed after Crystal Palace boss’ scathing assessment
One Manchester United star has been slammed for being “ridiculous” following a scathing assessment from Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
Manchester United were held to their first draw of the season in a goalless encounter with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.
The game began positively for United, who controlled much of the action and tested Palace’s goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, with several attempts on target.

Despite the best efforts of Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, the breakthrough never came. Palace improved in the second half, but neither team could find the decisive goal, leaving both sides to settle for a 0-0 draw.
While much of the focus has been on United’s ineffectiveness in front of goal, much has also been said about an incident with Lisandro Martínez in the second half, in which the player bizarrely jumped into a tackle with both feet on the edge of the Palace area.
Although a yellow card was given, many feel it should have been a red, and the Premier League issued a statement explaining why this was not the case.
Following the game, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner slammed Martínez for his actions, explaining that, had Daichi Kamada stuck his leg out, the Argentina international may have broken it.
“For me, it also looked really heavy. Fortunately, I think he touched the ball and not the shin of our player because I think he would have broken his leg,” he told the media after the game.
This was further backed by former Premier League player Jamie Redknapp, who slammed Martínez on Sky Sports in reaction to the result.
“I’d love to tell you [what is his thinking]. He goes into a position, he wants to go in with two feet. I don’t know – it is a tackle we saw many years ago.
“I don’t know what on earth you are thinking you are going to gain by jumping in with two feet. If he lands on Kamada’s foot he goes down and it is a straight red. The only thing why he doesn’t get a straight red is he somehow just misses his foot. It is a ridiculous challenge.”
Ten Hag, however, had a different view on the challenge. He explained that as Martínez only got the ball and no one was hurt by his actions, a yellow card is sufficient punishment.
“He [Lisandro Martinez] took a risk but I think he was on the ball. He didn’t hit any opponent so I think [i’s] a booking but he should take more control.”
